Services For Faculty/Staff

1.  Assistance in identifying grant funding sources, obtaining and completing 
grant applications internally and externally for your scholarship, travel, etc. 
 
2.  Annual faculty/staff grants writing workshop will be offered on January 21, 2009.  To register contact Colleen Donaldson at cdonalds@brockport.edu.

Additionally, if you would like a presentation from 1.5 – 3 hours in your class on how to successfully seek external grants in any discipline please contact the Grants Development Director (last year presentations were made in 11 classes across disciplines).

3.  Conducting research involving human subjects?
Our office coordinates the approval process for human subjects review for faculty/staff/student research.  Contact us for guidelines or visit the IRB website at http://www.brockport.edu/irb/  Additionally, class presentations on ethics involving human subjects in research can also be made - contact our office.

4.  Scholars Day – our annual celebration of faculty/staff/student research is coordinated by our office. It will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009.  Classes on campus will be suspended that day from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm so that our entire community can participate.  Online call for participation forms will be available after November 1, 2008 and will be due February 4, 2009.  The forms will be accessible from our website.  In 2008 over 200 presentations were made by over 400 students/faculty/staff.  For more information go to the Scholars Day website at http://www.brockport.edu/scholarsday/

Internal grants for Faculty and Staff

5.  Full-time faculty presentations at conferences – open deadline.  This is a non-competitive program.  All full-time faculty (only) presenting at a conference/workshop can receive up to $600 for travel expenses if non-tenured; $500 if tenured.  Complete the one-page Faculty Travel to Present form from your departmental secretary or our office.
6.  Scholarly Incentive Grantsfull-time faculty (only) are eligible to apply for up to $500 for one year to assist them to pursue scholarly research.  Funds can be used for travel to collections, payment for research assistants, payment for research participants, survey copying/mailing costs, software not available on campus, etc.  This is a competitive, peer-reviewed program.  Deadlines are November 3, 2008 and March 2, 2009.  Guidelines can be obtained by clicking on the link on the sidebar on this page.

7.  Sponsored Programs Incentive Fundfull-time faculty (only)  are eligible to receive from $400 - $1,000 in the form of extra-service compensation or equivalent funds for travel for submitting an external grant proposal through the Grants Development Office for at least $10,000. This is a one-time award per academic year.  The award is applicable only to new projects.  Renewals of existing projects are not eligible.  Once a proposal is submitted the Grants Development Director will discuss this with you in more depth.

8.  UUP Individual Development Grantsopen to all faculty and professional staff members of UUP (full and part-time).  Up to $1,000 can be requested for research, travel to present or attend conferences/workshops, research supplies, etc.  This is a very competitive program with funds awarded to the campus by the UUP.  You can apply for reimbursement for any activities that will occur from July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009.  There are two deadlines October 20, 2008 and February 20, 2009.  Guidelines and forms can be obtained by clicking on the link on the sidebar on this page.

9. Better Community Coalition GICD Grants – this competitive program is open to all faculty, staff and students.  It will provide partial support for conferences, workshops, or presenters on campus who promote the values of global interdependence and cultural diversity.  Activities must take place on a SUNY Brockport site and be co-sponsored by other groups on campus.  Deadlines are September 15, 2008; October 27, 2008; February 16, 2009; April 13, 2009.  Guidelines are available by clicking on the link on the sidebar on this page.

10. Faculty Staff Technology Support Initiative – (this program is not administered by the Grants Development Office but by the Associate VP for Academic Affairs at 395-2504).  Grants of up to $5,000 are provided through this competitive grant program for faculty and staff for job-related technology support for teaching, research and program administration.  Guidelines will be issued in January 2009.

11.  SUNY Chancellor’s Awards and Distinguished Teaching/Service Awards – nomination packages will now be coordinated through Christopher Price in the CELT office.  PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE.  For more information contact Chris at cprice@brockport.edu and request guidelines.  The deadline will be January 13, 2009 for nomination packages.  To be eligible you must have completed at least three years of uninterrupted service at the college.

 

For Students Only

1.  Grants Writing Course offered annually for undergraduate/graduate students


PRO 410/510 is a one-credit grants writing course that will be offered on January 31 and February 7, 2009 (two Saturdays) for our students.  The course has been taught by the Grants Development Director since 1993.  Students from all disciplines ranging from Dance to Chemistry have found it to be useful.

2.  Student Travel Grants to Present at Conferences  – this is a competitive program with funding from BSG and the Provost’s Office and administered by the Grants Development Office.  The program is open only to students presenting at a conference.  Each student can receive up to $300 once an academic year. Presentations must be made between August 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009.  Deadlines for applications are September 22, 2008; November 3, 2008; February 9, 2009; March 9, 2009, April 6, 2009 (assuming that funds are not all expended prior to this deadline). 3.  National Council for Undergraduate Research – the Office of Academic Affairs provides support for students (and their faculty mentor) to present at the NCUR annual conference from April 16-18, 2009 in LaCrosse, WI..  Applications are welcome from all disciplines and are submitted to NCUR by December 1, 2008 for review and selection. Twenty-seven students (accompanied by seven faculty mentors) presented their research at the April 2008 conference in Maryland. SUNY Brockport ranked in the top ten among over eighty universities and colleges nationwide which had more than six students accepted to present in 2008.  For more information click on the link on the sidebar on this page.  You can also contact Dr. Markus Hoffmann, NCUR Coordinator for more information at mhoffman@brockport.edu.
