Register for the 17th Annual Diversity Conference
Event registration is open for the 17th Annual Diversity Conference on October 5, 2017. This year’s theme is "Intersectionality in Justice and Equity".
Visit the attached link to register. The event is free for Brockport students, faculty, and staff.
Sister Grace Miller, founder of the House of Mercy, will deliver the morning keynote. In 1985, Sister Grace Miller could see that homelessness was a big problem in Rochester, NY, and there simply weren’t enough shelters to meet the need. Sister Grace immediately went to work. With help from the Sisters of Mercy, she opened a shelter in a small house on Central Park (just north of downtown Rochester). As need has grown, so too has the House of Mercy, now a permanent homeless shelter and drop-in center on Hudson Avenue ― serving more than 4,000 people a month.
Wes Moore, CEO of Robin Hood, army combat veteran and best-selling author, will deliver the evening keynote. His book, The Work: My Search for a Life that Matters, is this year’s selection for the Freshman Summer Reading Program. The Work is the story of how one young man (Wes Moore) traced a path through the world to find his life’s purpose. He shares the lessons he learned from people he met along the way. Moore also tells the stories of other 21st-century change-makers who’ve inspired him in his search.
Additional conference highlights include:
• Presentation of the Kathy Mangione Diversity Engagement Awards and Douglas Feldman LGBT Paper Award
• 20+ workshops, panels and presentations
• Cultural Showcase
• Multicultural Food Tasting and Entertainment
