The College at Brockport is committed to being a positive and innovative force for the protection and enhancement of not only our local environment, but the global environment as well.

Green Campus Initiative

Listed below are a handful of initiatives that the College has implemented in order to create a sustainable environment for the future.

  • Thompson Hall: Thompson Hall was remodeled in 2010 and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified building. It boasts a rainwater collection and reuse system, a rain garden, and permeable pavers.
  • STARS Silver: The College registered with Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) administered by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
  • Trayless Dining: Brockway dining hall has eliminated trays, saving the cost and energy of washing 500 trays per meal.
  • Vegetable Oil: BASC sells used vegetable oil to Buffalo Biodiesel Inc. for reuse.
  • Composting: BASC composts pre-consumer food waste from Harrison and Brockway dining halls.
  • Storm Water Retention Ponds: Our storm water retention ponds slow the rush or storm water and allow suspended material to deposit as sediment.
  • Renewable Energy: An array of photovoltaic solar panels was installed on the roof of the Chapman Service complex with a  peak capacity of 80kWh.
  • Fast TRAX: Parking and Transportation Services and Residential Life and Learning Communities have collaborated to offer a campus bike lending program at the College to reduce the use of motor vehicles.
  • Recycling Multi Bins: Our recycling multi bins covers a wide array of recycling needs including electronic materials, metals, glass, paper,  and plastics.
  • Public Transportation: Parking and Transportation Services partnered with First Transit to provide campus shuttle services. The College is also service by the Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority.
